In a state where elections are often a litmus test for public trust, Anambra’s November 8 governorship poll stood out for its calm, a feat largely credited to responsible journalism.
The Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Chief Ernest Ezeajughi, has praised the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, for its role in ensuring a smooth and peaceful election through balanced and factual reportage.
He spoke through the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, at the chapel’s end-of-year gathering in Awka.
Ezeajughi described the chapel as a key partner in the Soludo administration’s Solution Agenda, noting that accurate and objective reporting helped residents make informed choices and sustained peace before, during and after the election.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, also commended journalists for working closely with security agencies, contributing to a secure election period and a peaceful Yuletide.
The event featured the presentation of the Correspondents’ Chapel Media Merit Award, won by Aloysius Attah of Sun Newspapers, with Emma Elekwa (The Nation) and Emma Uzor (Sun Newspapers) emerging as runners-up.
Other awards went to the Governor’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime; CP Orutugu; Commissioner for Works, Ifeanyi Okeoma; and Awka North and South federal lawmaker, Prof. Lilian Orogbu.
