Charumbira Urges African Nations To Empower Youth, Foster Unity Amid Growing Instability
As conflicts and political uncertainties ripple across the continent, the President of the Pan African Parliament, Chief Fortune Charumbira, has called for renewed commitment to youth empowerment and continental solidarity.
Speaking at the opening of the 88th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Chief Charumbira stressed that Africa’s young people, who make up over 60% of its population, must no longer be sidelined in shaping national and regional policies.
“Our young people are not just the future; they are our present,” he said. “Their aspirations, concerns, and perspectives must be integrated into national dialogues.”
Referencing the recent constitutional developments in Madagascar and other tensions across the continent, the Pan African Parliament president urged African leaders to work collectively to tackle the root causes of instability, including economic inequality and unemployment.
“We have a responsibility to invest in sustainable solutions that promote justice, peace, and human rights for all,” Charumbira stated.
He ended his address with a call to action: “Let us unite to create a continent where every voice counts, and together, we can uplift our communities and ensure a brighter future for generations to come.”
