Nigeria, EU Open New Chapter With Trade and Investment Dialogue
In today’s global economy, partnerships thrive not only on shared history but also on the ability to build frameworks that unlock fresh opportunities.
Nigeria and the European Union (EU) took such a step on Tuesday as both sides launched the inaugural Senior Officials’ Trade and Investment Dialogue (TID) in Abuja.
The meeting, co-chaired by Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and Ms Dora Correia, Director at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security, provided a platform to strengthen economic ties.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, and EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, welcomed the Dialogue, describing it as a milestone that highlights the growing weight of trade and investment in EU-Nigeria relations.
Talks covered trade policy, market access, investment promotion, cooperation within the World Trade Organization, and regulatory issues that affect businesses.
Both parties also explored opportunities for development cooperation in trade and investment-related areas.
The Dialogue will be sustained, with the second round scheduled for Brussels in 2026.
