Nigeria, Russia Strengthen Economic Ties through BRICS Women’s Alliance

At a time when global partnerships are increasingly defined by innovation, inclusivity and shared prosperity, Nigeria and Russia are charting a new course in their decades-long relationship.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, said both nations were set to deepen economic cooperation through the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance.

Speaking in Abuja during the visit of the Russian Chapter of the Alliance, she described the engagement as “timely,” adding that it provided a platform for investment opportunities across trade, energy, agriculture and technology.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu praised Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for hosting the event, hailing her as a model of the transformative power of women in development.

She said the First Lady’s initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda had empowered women, promoted education for girls, and advanced inclusive growth.

The Minister emphasised that Nigeria’s youthful population, vast resources and reform-driven administration, coupled with Russia’s technological expertise, created “win-win” prospects for collaboration.

She further called for actionable outcomes that would promote women-led businesses in key sectors such as agro-processing, education, creative industries and digital innovation.

She concluded by reaffirming Nigeria’s readiness to work closely with Russia and BRICS to promote inclusive prosperity and deepen people-to-people ties.
