ECOWAS Experts Push For Stronger Energy Data Systems To Drive Regional Development

Reliable data is becoming the backbone of modern energy planning, and West Africa is taking steps to strengthen it.

Energy Information System (EIS) experts from across ECOWAS member states are meeting in Banjul, The Gambia, from 24 to 26 September for the fourth annual regional workshop on the ECOWAS Energy Information System.

The forum, organised by the ECOWAS Commission’s Directorate of Energy and Mines in collaboration with The Gambia’s Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines, seeks to validate a common reference framework for energy statistics in the region.

Officials say the initiative is fast becoming a regional tradition, laying the foundation for institutionalised energy data collection and digital services to support evidence-based policymaking, investment, and sustainable energy access for millions in West Africa
