China Pledges Deeper Cooperation With Nigeria As It Marks 76 Years of Nationhood

In a reflection of enduring friendship and shared aspirations, China has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria, pledging deeper cooperation across key sectors of development.

Speaking at a colourful reception in Abuja to mark the 76th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, said both nations share a unique bond, as their national days, October 1, symbolise a shared journey of independence and progress.

He noted that following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to Beijing last year, both countries elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership, opening new doors for collaboration under China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI).

Ambassador Yu highlighted several ongoing and completed projects that underline China’s contribution to Nigeria’s growth, including the Lekki Deep Sea Port, expected to generate $360 billion and create 170,000 jobs, the Abuja Water Supply Project, which now serves nearly 3 million people, and plans for Africa’s first insulin production facility in Nigeria.

“China stands ready to align with Nigeria’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda and its eight priority areas,” Yu said, pledging Beijing’s support for Nigeria’s increasing global influence.

Representing the Deputy Senate President, Senator Babangida Hussaini congratulated China on behalf of the Nigerian government, describing the October 1 coincidence as “a powerful emblem of solidarity and partnership.”

He assured that the National Assembly remains committed to ensuring transparency and sustainability in bilateral projects.

The event, attended by diplomats, lawmakers, business leaders, and Chinese cultural troupes from Shenzhen, showcased the growing warmth in Nigeria-China relations and set the tone for what both nations describe as “a new chapter in mutual prosperity.”
