West Africa Deepens Commitments To Clean Energy At ESEF 2025 In The Gambia
As the world races to achieve a just and sustainable energy transition, West Africa has stepped up its resolve with bold commitments at the 10th ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF 2025), held in Banjul, The Gambia.
The two-day event, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of ECOWAS and the 15th anniversary of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), brought together ministers, experts, development partners, and civil society to chart a path for the region’s energy future.
Key priorities included accelerating the Regional Electricity Market, advancing clean mobility, strengthening the water, energy, agriculture nexus, and expanding access to clean cooking.
Green hydrogen emerged as a game-changer, with leaders stressing the need for pilot projects, financing, and stronger cooperation to unlock its potential.
The forum concluded with an awards ceremony celebrating innovation and sustainable development. In their closing remarks,
ECREEE’s Executive Director and Gambian authorities hailed the collective determination to make clean energy a driver of resilience, prosperity, and inclusive growth in West Africa.
