ECOWAS, Spain Strengthen Regional Integration Through ISE II Project
In a bid to deepen regional integration and improve coordination across its directorates, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has teamed up with the Spanish Cooperation under the ISE II project.
At a two-day retreat held in Niger State on 18–19 September 2025, representatives from various ECOWAS departments converged to strengthen coordination mechanisms and boost the effective delivery of the organisation’s integration agenda.
Speaking at the opening, Mr Jerome Boa, Director of External Relations, representing ECOWAS Commission President Omar Alieu Touray, underscored the importance of strong inter-directorate collaboration in implementing development projects.
He commended Spain’s long-standing partnership with ECOWAS.
Mr Santiago Ormeño García, Head of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) in Nigeria and ECOWAS, said regional integration thrives on partnerships and internal coordination.
He noted, “Spain is proud to be part of the ISE II project and supporting ECOWAS in its mission of bringing the West African community together. Regional integration delivers livelihoods and improves citizens’ lives.”
The support of Spain and the European Union reflects a continued commitment to promoting economic development, stability, and cohesion in West Africa.
