ECOWAS Launches Monitoring Mission On Humanitarian Projects In Guinea-Bissau

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has begun a six-day Monitoring and Evaluation Mission in Guinea-Bissau to assess the impact of its humanitarian interventions following the devastating 2022 floods.

The mission, led by the ECOWAS Department of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, runs from 1 to 6 September 2025.

Working alongside Guinea-Bissau’s Civil Protection Agency, the Red Cross and the fire service, ECOWAS has supported disaster risk reduction initiatives aimed at boosting resilience and emergency response.

So far, about 11,000 households across nine affected communities have benefited from projects such as school rehabilitation, construction of dikes and drainage channels, installation of water regulators, restoration of 550 hectares of rice fields, and the distribution of food and non-food relief to vulnerable groups.

The mission is expected to review progress, identify challenges, and strengthen future humanitarian response efforts in the region.
