FG Sets Course For Clean and Affordable Energy With New Renewable Energy Committee
The Federal Government has unveiled a major step towards ensuring clean, reliable, and affordable energy for Nigerians with the establishment of the National Committee on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Certification (NCREEIC).
The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, announced the initiative in Abuja on Friday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) and High Voltage 101 Limited.
According to Nnaji, the move marks a “bold new course” in Africa’s energy transition, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to drive industrial growth, create jobs, and safeguard the environment.
He stressed that the inter-ministerial committee will focus on innovation and research, collaboration, local content development, as well as certification and standards.
Director-General of the ECN, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, highlighted Nigeria’s progress in developing institutional frameworks to promote energy efficiency across industries, buildings, appliances, and transport.
He also noted the establishment of the National Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation at the University of Lagos, which conducts research and appliance testing.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of High Voltage 101 Limited, Hon. Chijioke NwaDavid, commended the Minister’s efforts, describing the initiative as “a transformational step” towards energy sustainability, innovation, and economic growth.
