CAPPA Youth Bootcamp On Food Justice Set To Open In Ekiti
The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) will on Sunday, 24 August, open its 2025 Youth Bootcamp for Food Justice at the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort in Ekiti State.
The week-long residential programme, organised in partnership with the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI), will bring together young Nigerians from all six geopolitical zones for intensive training on food, health, and policy.
According to CAPPA, the initiative was conceived in response to Nigeria’s rising burden of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, fuelled by the widespread consumption of ultra-processed foods and sugar-sweetened beverages.
Executive Director of CAPPA, Akinbode Oluwafemi, said the bootcamp would equip participants with the skills and confidence to influence nutrition policies and promote healthier diets. “Food justice is becoming one of the defining public health and social issues of our time,” he noted.
The bootcamp will feature experts in food policy, public health, and social justice advocacy, with sessions covering the Sugar-Sweetened Beverages (SSB) Tax, legislative pathways for advancing food justice, and strategies for grassroots mobilisation.
CAPPA stressed that the programme aims not only to build leadership capacity among young Nigerians but also to foster a national network of advocates who will continue working together beyond the bootcamp to push for healthier food environments.
