FG To Host National Policy Dialogue On Healthcare Financing, Universal Health Coverage
The Federal Government is set to chart a new course for Nigeria’s health sector as the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMOHSW) announces a High-Level National Policy Dialogue on Healthcare Financing.
Scheduled for 1st – 4th September 2025, the dialogue will run under the theme “Reimagining the Future of Health Financing in Nigeria.”
It is expected to bring together policymakers, development partners, civil society, academia, and the private sector to agree on sustainable strategies that will expand access to affordable, quality healthcare for all Nigerians.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, said the country’s next chapter in healthcare reform would focus on saving lives, reducing both physical and financial suffering, and ensuring no one is left behind.
The Director-General of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Kelechi Ohiri, added that the dialogue would review findings from the State of Health Financing Report and build consensus on feasible strategies to strengthen domestic health financing.
The initiative builds on Nigeria’s continental leadership role, following the African Union’s 2019 Addis Ababa Declaration, which committed member states to increased domestic investment in health and universal coverage.
