Super Eagles B End CHAN Campaign With Victory Over Congo
Nigeria’s Super Eagles B bowed out of the 8th African Nations Championship on a winning note after defeating Congo 2–0 in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.
Despite the impressive result at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, both sides were already out of contention for a quarter-final place.
Nigeria had suffered earlier defeats to Senegal and Sudan, while Congo needed a win and favourable results elsewhere to progress.
After a lacklustre first half, the Eagles returned with renewed energy. Anas Yusuf broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, heading home from Sikiru Alimi’s knockdown.
Alimi then sealed the win deep into stoppage time to give Nigeria their first CHAN goals since 2018.
Defending champions Senegal and Sudan advanced from Group D, while the Eagles are expected back in Nigeria on Thursday.
