SGF Urges United Front Against Climate Change
Africa may be blessed with vast natural resources, but the continent stands at a critical juncture, grappling with climate change, infrastructure deficits, and economic uncertainty.
This was the message from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, as he called for collective action to tackle these challenges.
Speaking in Abuja at the opening of the two-day Africa Infrastructure and Climate Change Summit (AICIS 2025), Akume, represented by Mr Nadungu Gagare, Permanent Secretary for Political and Economic Affairs said stakeholders must work together to drive transformative change, build climate-resilient infrastructure, and secure green economic growth across the continent.
“This summit offers a unique platform to engage, exchange ideas and forge partnerships for a greener, more prosperous Africa,” he said, urging open collaboration to chart “practical pathways forward.”
AICIS 2025 brought together African leaders, policymakers, development partners, and industry experts. Committee Chairman, Mr Moses Owharo, commended the Federal Government for prioritising climate action but stressed the need for stronger public-private partnerships to turn challenges into opportunities for innovation and inclusive growth.
The summit also featured contributions from key figures including Farouk Ahmed, MD of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority; Abdulhameed Aliyu, MD of NIRSAL; Dr Matthew Adepoju, DG of NASRDA; and members of the diplomatic community.
