Moghalu Pledges Tech-Powered Security Overhaul For Anambra
With insecurity still casting a shadow over Anambra, Labour Party governorship candidate George Moghalu says the solution lies in fusing technology, intelligence, and community policing into a coordinated defence network.
Unveiling his security blueprint during a meeting with the League of Anambra Journalists in Abuja, LAJA, Moghalu vowed to establish command-and-control centres, install CCTV at strategic points, and deploy drones to monitor criminal activity.
He lamented the absence of such infrastructure in the state despite available resources, noting that advanced intelligence systems are a global standard in crime-fighting.
His plan also places heavy emphasis on grassroots security. Moghalu said Anambra’s 179 communities already have vigilante groups, which he would formalise through documentation, training, equipment, and integration with traditional rulers and local leaders. Retired security officers, police, military, and DSS, would be recruited to mentor and train these vigilantes, creating a disciplined, skilled force rooted in local knowledge.
Beyond hardware, he promised to tackle the root causes of crime by creating jobs through agricultural expansion, vocational and tech-based education, and a stronger private sector.
To motivate security personnel, he proposed a life insurance scheme covering housing, education, and job opportunities for the families of officers killed in the line of duty.
Moghalu described his proposals as “simple but missing in the current administration,” promising they would mark a decisive shift in governance if implemented.
