NAF, NIGCOMSAT Join Forces To Strengthen Nigeria’s Security and Sovereignty
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited are set to deepen collaboration in a bid to boost the nation’s security, technological independence, and operational sustainability.
This strategic alliance was the highlight of a courtesy visit by NIGCOMSAT’s Managing Director, Mrs Jane Egerton-Idehen, to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, at NAF Headquarters in Abuja on 7 August.
The partnership will see NIGCOMSAT’s satellite technology support NAF’s secure communications, real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations — a move both parties say is vital for safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty in an era of evolving security threats.
Air Marshal Abubakar stressed the importance of home-grown solutions, noting that reliance on foreign systems must be reduced to ensure secure and effective operations.
In response, Mrs Egerton-Idehen pledged NIGCOMSAT’s full support, describing the partnership as “critical” for strengthening Nigeria’s digital defence infrastructure.
The renewed commitment is expected to enhance inter-agency synergy and harness local technology to fortify the country’s air defence and surveillance capabilities.
