FRSC Nabs 563 Drivers For Attempting To Bribe Officers In July

In a bold step towards cleaner roads and cleaner conduct, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has revealed that 563 motorists were booked in the month of July for attempting to bribe marshals on duty with Osun State topping the list at 155 offenders.

The Corps has described the development as a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against corruption within the road traffic enforcement system.

According to the FRSC, such acts of bribery not only compromise the integrity of patrol operations but also endanger public safety.

At the centre of the Osun Command’s outstanding performance is Assistant Route Commander Babatunde J. Owoeye, who alone accounted for 104 of the anti-corruption surveillance (ACS) bookings.

Commending Owoeye’s vigilance and professionalism, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said he represents the ideal FRSC officer, one who refuses to be swayed and upholds the Corps’ core values of discipline and integrity.

“The FRSC will never condone attempts to corrupt its officers. We are building a culture where integrity is rewarded and enforced,” the Corps Marshal said.

He also urged motorists to obey traffic laws and warned that offering bribes to patrol officers is a criminal offence under Nigerian law.

The Corps is now doubling down on ethical training, targeted enforcement, and value-based reorientation for its officers — tools it says are essential for restoring public trust and ensuring safer roads.

With over 500 drivers already caught in the act last month, the message is loud and clear: corruption won’t find a home on Nigerian roads.
