Tinubu Extends Customs Boss Adeniyi’s Tenure By One Year

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whose tenure was initially set to end on 31st August 2025.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension will allow Mr Adeniyi to consolidate key reforms and see through critical projects already underway.

Among the priorities highlighted are the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the full implementation of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.

President Tinubu praised Mr Adeniyi’s “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” expressing confidence that the additional year will help strengthen the Service’s role in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national border security.

Mr Adeniyi, who holds the national honour of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR), has been at the forefront of customs reforms since taking office.
