Okpebholo Flags Off Emergency Road Repairs, Vows To End Kidnapping In Edo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has flagged off emergency palliative works on critical sections of Federal roads in the Edo North Senatorial District, pledging to stamp out kidnapping in the state once and for all.

The roads, totalling about 9.61 kilometres, span the Auchi-Igarra-Aiyetoro-Uneme-Nekhua-Aiyegunle-Ikpeshi-Ibillo-Ekor-Ikiran-Oke axis, routes that have long been in disrepair and prone to security threats.

Speaking during the official flag-off on Thursday, Governor Okpebholo said the intervention reflects the concern of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Edo’s development, adding that both federal and state roads will be rehabilitated across all three senatorial districts.

“I was with President Tinubu last week in Abuja and he personally asked me to ensure that potholes on roads across the state, whether federal or state-owned, are fixed,” the Governor stated.

He further assured residents of his government’s readiness to confront insecurity head-on. “The business of kidnapping will not thrive here.

I will relocate to Edo North if that is what it takes to flush out these criminal elements. We won’t leave this to security agencies alone, we’ll face it together.”

On the issue of gully erosion ravaging Auchi and its surroundings, Governor Okpebholo said due process will be followed to ensure sustainable solutions. “I will visit the site personally and send in engineers to assess it so we can bring an end to the devastation.”

The event also saw expressions of gratitude from community leaders and lawmakers. Hon. Oloruntoba Bamidele commended the Governor for addressing neglected federal roads, while Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku pledged continued legislative support to drive infrastructural development.

The Governor later visited erosion-hit sites in Auchi and other parts of Etsako West Local Government Area, reiterating his commitment to long-term development and safety for all Edo people.
