Air Chief Hails AFMS At 45, Champions Youth Development At Joint Parade

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has hailed the enduring legacy of the Air Force Military School (AFMS), Jos, as the institution marked its 45th anniversary during a colourful Joint Passing Out Parade held alongside its sister school, the Air Force Girls Military School (AFGMS).

Addressing a vibrant crowd of dignitaries, parents, and proud alumni, Air Marshal Abubakar – himself a former instructor at AFMS – expressed pride in returning to the school in his current role. “This institution shaped my early career and continues to produce disciplined, purpose-driven leaders,” he said.

The CAS praised the resilience and achievements of the over 6,200 AFMS alumni who have excelled across the globe, while commending the Alumni Association for its consistent support and developmental projects.

Reaffirming the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to education, he revealed that new NAF schools have been established in Abuja, Igbara-Oke, and Kaduna, alongside ongoing upgrades at existing schools including AFMS. Plans are also underway to integrate all NAFOWA-owned schools under a unified education system.

In a significant move, Air Marshal Abubakar announced the revival of a programme to absorb Ex-Junior Airmen and Airwomen into the Nigerian Air Force after further basic training—offering a clear pathway from student life to national service.

“To the graduating students, you are the future of this country. Serve with dignity and never stop learning,” he urged, while also thanking the staff and instructors for their dedication.

The event, marked by impressive parades and vibrant displays, brought together senior officers, families, and members of the Ex-JAM and Ex-JAW communities. The energy was electric, the pride palpable.

“The greatness of any nation,” the CAS concluded, “lies not only in its weapons, but in the quality of its people.”
