Police Nab Cult Suspect, Recover Firearms In Port Harcourt Crackdown
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a cache of firearms and ammunition in a major breakthrough against violent cult activity in Port Harcourt.
The suspect, 36-year-old Diseye Ukulu from Bayelsa State but resident in Diobu, was apprehended on 9th July by a combined team of the Special Operations and Intelligence Team (SOIT), Hawk Tactical Squad, and Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU), in collaboration with local vigilantes.
The operation, which took place around 6:20 p.m., followed credible intelligence linking Ukulu to ongoing violent rivalries between the D12 and BS confraternities both affiliates of the deadly Deygbam cult group, believed to be behind several recent killings in the area.
Following Ukulu’s confession, officers raided the residence of one Achionu Solomon Chukwuma, also known as “Solex”, where they recovered a Scorpion VZ61 submachine gun, a fabricated English-made Beretta pistol, 20 rounds of 5.56mm and two rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and a pair of sunglasses all hidden in a black bag.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, praised the swift action of the operatives and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to rooting out criminal elements in the state.
He also urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.
Investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend other members of the cult group.
