Presidency Slams Atiku Over Anti-Corruption Promise
The Presidency has hit back at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing his recent vow to tackle corruption as a desperate move to woo voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a strongly worded statement on Sunday, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed Atiku’s anti-corruption stance as “deceptive,” branding him a “well-known corrupt public official.”
Reacting to a viral video in which Atiku promised to fight graft if elected president, Onanuga said many Nigerians found it hard to take the declaration seriously. He warned that making such a “false vow” could invite divine consequences.
“Nigerians are not fooled,” the presidential aide added. “They remember his past and won’t be misled by political gimmicks.”
The war of words signals a heating up of the political landscape as the countdown to 2027 begins.
