The Armed Forces of Nigeria have released their second quarter operational report, revealing significant successes across various theatres in the country’s fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and economic sabotage.

According to Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, troops operating under various joint task forces between April and June 2025 eliminated several top terrorist commanders, arrested 1,191 suspects, and rescued 543 kidnapped victims.

About 682 terrorists and their families also surrendered during the period under review.

Among those neutralised were high-profile insurgents including dreaded Amir Abu Fatimah, Auta, Abdul Jamilu, and IPOB/ESN kingpin, Nwachi Eze (aka Onowu). The notorious bandit leader, Yellow Danbokkolo, also succumbed to injuries after a fierce encounter with troops.

In the oil-rich Niger Delta, troops under Operation DELTA SAFE foiled crude oil theft valued at over ₦3.5 billion. They recovered over 2.3 million litres of stolen crude oil and dismantled 174 illegal refining sites, arresting several suspects in the process.

Other key highlights include:

Recovery of a cache of weapons, RPGs, IEDs, and ammunition.

Destruction of oil bunkering facilities, dugout pits, and boats used in illegal refining.

Successful rescue of 15 militia-abducted victims in Akwa Ibom.

Arrest of terrorists’ logistics suppliers and IPOB/ESN financial sponsors in the North East and South East respectively.

In the North Central and North West regions, coordinated offensives by troops under Operations SAFE HAVEN, WHIRL STROKE, and FASAN YAMMA led to the arrest of kidnappers, illegal miners, and gunrunners, alongside recovery of arms and stolen vehicles.

General Kangye commended the courage and professionalism of troops, adding that all actions were carried out in accordance with the rules of engagement and international humanitarian laws. He also appreciated the role of the media in spotlighting the efforts of the armed forces.

The report underlines Nigeria’s intensified push to dismantle criminal networks, ensure national security, and protect critical economic assets.
