FG Reiterates Drive To Win Hearts, Not Just Battles
In a renewed push to strengthen national unity and security, the Federal Government has pledged to deepen civil-military relations by embracing non-kinetic approaches that focus on trust, dialogue, and community engagement.
This assurance was made at the opening of the Civil-Military Relations Conference held in Abuja on 19th June 2025.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the Permanent Secretary, Ogbodo Chinasa Nnam, described the gathering as a “significant milestone” in reshaping how Nigerians view their Armed Forces.
Themed “Winning Hearts and Minds: Non-Kinetic Approaches to National Security”, the conference explored ways to bridge the trust gap between the military and civilians through civic education, media sensitisation, humanitarian services, and public engagement.
“The truth is clear,” the Minister said. “There’s a lingering trust deficit between the military and parts of the civilian population.
Whether shaped by history, misinformation, or unfortunate incidents, this perception must be addressed head-on.”
He called on Nigerians to see the military not as a distant or intimidating force but as protectors and partners in national development.
The Minister also urged the media to play a pivotal role in countering misinformation and telling positive stories of sacrifice and service by the Armed Forces.
The Ministry, he added, is ready to collaborate with Defence Headquarters, civil society, and media professionals to implement the outcomes of the conference and create platforms for genuine interaction and understanding.
In his closing remarks, he expressed hope that the conversations held would serve as a stepping stone toward a more united and secure Nigeria.
