West Africa Economic Summit: Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu Leads Diplomatic Shuttle To The Gambia, Senegal 

In a diplomatic push ahead of the much anticipated West Africa Economic Summit, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has visited The Gambia and Senegal as Special Envoy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Special Envoy and her delegation arrived in Dakar, Senegal, where they delivered President Tinubu’s official invitation to the upcoming summit and they were warmly received by Senior Officials of the Senegalese government.

The Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu led delegation also met with Gambian President Adama Barrow in Banjul.

During their meeting, she personally presented the invitation letter to the President, who lauded the initiative as timely and strategic.

President Barrow described the summit as a “historic gathering” and pledged The Gambia’s full participation.

He emphasised the need for West Africa to strengthen regional cooperation, especially as donor fatigue continues to shape the global aid landscape even as he said that the future lies in building strong intra-African partnerships, applauding President Tinubu’s leadership as ECOWAS Chair in championing economic integration.

The West Africa Economic Summit, scheduled for 20–21 June at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, is expected to attract heads of state from across the sub-region, as well as global business leaders, institutional heads and financial experts.

According to a statement by the Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the summit is a legacy project of President Tinubu aimed at deepening regional trade, investment and sustainable economic development.
