Anambra Government Raises Alarm Over Porn-Laden Skits, Fake News On Social Media

The Anambra State Government has expressed deep concern over the growing flood of pornographic content and propaganda circulating across social media platforms.

Speaking at the closing of a two-day Media and Information Literacy (MIL) workshop at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, described the level of sexual content in online skits as “alarming” and “nothing short of pornography.”

The event, organised by the Media and Information and Inter-cultural Dialogue (MILID) Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO and the Anambra State Ministry of Information, brought together young people and youth-led organisations from across South East Nigeria.

Dr Mefor criticised the trend of content creators relying on sexually explicit material to gain attention online, saying such behaviour reflects a growing lack of social responsibility.

“Content creation is not just about going viral or earning money. You owe the society some level of responsibility,” he said. “Yes, traffic may lead to profit, but at what cost?”

The Commissioner also condemned the use of propaganda, particularly in politics, stressing that effective governance should be grounded in facts, not manipulation.

“We don’t believe in propaganda here in Anambra,” he added. “Our job is to give people the truth, not to bend it. If you want proof of what the Soludo administration has achieved, just take a tour—we’ll show you.”

With social media increasingly shaping public opinion, the government’s call highlights the urgent need for content that promotes truth, responsibility, and positive values—especially among the youth.
