Eid Greetings With A Heavy Heart: Kareem-Adigun Mourns Mokwa Flood Victims, Urges Urgent Action

As Muslims across Nigeria mark the sacred Eid al-Kabir festival, former NAWOJ President, Hajia Fatimah Ajibola Kareem-Adigun, has sent warm Sallah wishes — tempered with deep sorrow over the recent tragic flooding in Mokwa, Niger State.

In a heartfelt message, Kareem-Adigun extended her greetings to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and all Nigerians, especially the Muslim faithful, while expressing profound condolences to families affected by the devastating floods.

“My heart is heavy,” she wrote, acknowledging the pain of those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. “Your pain is our pain, and your resilience inspires us.”

The floods, which struck just days before the Eid celebrations, claimed lives and caused widespread destruction. Kareem-Adigun described it as a “national tragedy” that impacted not only residents of Mokwa but travellers, traders, students, and youth corps members caught in the disaster.

While praising the efforts of NEMA, emergency responders, and volunteers, she stressed the urgent need for proactive governance. “We must not let this tragedy repeat itself. Nigerians deserve safety, dignity, and accountable leadership.”

Calling for long-term solutions, she urged all tiers of government to act swiftly — from upgrading drainage systems to embracing climate-resilient urban planning.

“Together, we will rebuild,” she concluded. “And together, we must demand the change that protects our future.”

Kareem-Adigun’s message comes as a rallying cry, reminding Nigerians that even in celebration, compassion and collective action must not be forgotten.
