Akwa Ibom Governor Defects To APC, Visits Akpabio Amid Cheers
In a dramatic political shift, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shortly after the announcement on Friday, Governor Eno paid a courtesy visit to Senate President Godswill Akpabio at his residence in Uyo. A video from the visit showed the two leaders exchanging warm greetings, surrounded by jubilant APC supporters.
Governor Eno, beaming with excitement, arrived alongside a delegation of APC governors and political allies. His defection was earlier confirmed at a ceremony held at the Akwa Ibom Government House, with governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Monday Okpebholo (Edo) in attendance.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Lagos, was reportedly following the development closely.
With Eno’s move, the APC now secures control of Akwa Ibom, leaving Bayelsa and Rivers as the last PDP strongholds in the South-South region.
