Ministry Takes Over Emefiele’s 753-Unit Housing Estate From EFCC

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has officially taken possession of a 753-unit housing estate in Abuja, previously owned by former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The property was handed over by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during a ceremony at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja, on Tuesday.

Minister Ahmed Dangiwa commended the EFCC for its commitment to asset recovery and transparency. “This marks a significant milestone in ensuring that recovered assets are channelled into productive use for the benefit of Nigerians,” he said.

The Ministry plans to carry out structural assessments to determine the estate’s habitability and will sell the units through a transparent process, including public advertisements and use of the Renewed Hope Portal for expressions of interest.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, emphasised the importance of transparency in managing recovered assets, noting, “We must ensure looted assets are not looted again.”

A joint tour by the Ministry and EFCC is scheduled to assess the estate’s current state before the sales process begins.
