Nigeria’s Judiciary Will Soon Overcome Its Challenges – CJN Kekere-Ekun

Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motomori Kekere-Ekun, has expressed optimism that the nation’s judiciary will soon emerge from its current challenges, including delays in justice delivery, waning public confidence, and limited resources.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday during a valedictory session in honour of the late Supreme Court Justice Emmanuel Obioma Ogwuegbu, who passed away aged 91, the CJN assured that efforts are underway to reform and strengthen the judicial system.

“We are currently working very hard to make a change,” she said, adding that Justice Ogwuegbu’s life provides a blueprint of integrity, service, and courage. “His judgments elevated our jurisprudence and strengthened the pillars of our democracy.”

Paying tribute, the Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, urged judicial officers to dispense justice with fairness and fearlessness.

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, described the late jurist as a “judicial titan” whose decisions deepened the nation’s legal landscape. “He rendered our laws clearer, our institutions stronger, and our democracy more stable,” he said.

Justice Ogwuegbu’s legacy, speakers agreed, will continue to illuminate Nigeria’s courts for generations to come.
