Bangladesh Seeks Stronger Economic, Educational Ties With Nigeria

As global trade and diplomacy continue to shape economic growth, Bangladesh is looking to deepen its engagement with Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy.

The South Asian nation, known for its booming textile industry, is extending a hand of partnership in trade, investment, and education.

During a meeting with the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN), Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Masudur Rahman, noted the vast economic opportunities available for Nigerian businesses in his country.

He highlighted Bangladesh’s dominance in textile production, especially denim and fashion apparel, which are in high demand globally.

“We produce everything in industry garments, textiles, apparel, and even world-class footwear. Nigerian businesses can benefit from this,” Rahman stated, pointing out that some Nigerian politicians turned businessmen have already begun exploring such opportunities in Bangladesh.

The High Commissioner also revealed plans to boost educational cooperation by offering scholarships to Nigerian students, following similar initiatives extended to other African nations. “We are thinking of giving more scholarships to Nigeria and promoting educational tie-ups,” he said, underscoring the importance of people-to-people connections in strengthening bilateral relations.

The Chairman of DICAN, Fredrick Idehai, on his part, reaffirmed the association’s role in promoting diplomatic discourse.

He sought the High Commission’s support for the maiden edition of the DICAN International Security Conference, scheduled for June 19, 2025.

In response, Rahman pledged Bangladesh’s readiness to collaborate on the initiative.

As Bangladesh and Nigeria explore deeper ties, the conversation signals a growing recognition of the mutual benefits both nations can harness through trade, education, and diplomacy.
