Military operations presently increasingly demand a delicate balance between security and human rights and for this, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is taking proactive steps to ensure its personnel uphold the highest ethical standards.
It is in recognition of the critical role of civil-military cooperation in fostering trust and accountability, that NAF has intensified efforts to strengthen human rights awareness and inter-agency collaboration.
NAF Headquarters hosted a Sensitisation Workshop for newly appointed Civil-Military Relations (CMR), Human Rights, and Gender Desk Officers to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent human rights violations, mitigate civilian harm, and enhance coordination between security agencies.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, noted that upholding human rights is integral to military professionalism and public trust.
With experts like Professor Ehiz Odigie, Dr. Sampson Terwase, and Mr. Peter Mancha leading discussions, participants explored key topics such as media relations, reputation management, and the role of non-kinetic operations in conflict resolution.
NAF has outlined a series of follow-up actions, including sensitisation visits to operational theatres and command headquarters nationwide.
By prioritising ethical engagement, Quick Impact Projects (QIPs), and community outreach, NAF is reinforcing its commitment to protecting civilians while ensuring national security.
With these initiatives, the Nigerian Air Force is not just strengthening its operational efficiency but also cementing its place as a force for good which is bridging the gap between military action and human rights advocacy.
