FG, NDDC, IFAD Partner To Empower Agripreneurs In Imo
In a major push to boost agribusiness in Imo State, the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have joined forces to establish agripreneurs across the state’s 27 local government areas.
The initiative, known as the FGN/IFAD/NDDC Livelihood Project, aims to create jobs, enhance food security, and uplift rural youths and women through sustainable agribusiness ventures.
Speaking at the first orientation training for participants in Owerri, the Imo State NDDC Representative, Hon. Kyrian Uchegbu, emphasised that the project will focus on key agricultural value chains such as rice, cassava, plantain, oil palm, cocoa, poultry, and fishery.
He noted that the programme is co-funded through an IFAD loan, alongside contributions from NDDC and the state government.
Dr. Uchegbu expressed optimism that the project would transform rural communities, stimulate the Imo economy, and generate wealth and job opportunities over the next three years.
He also appreciated Governor Hope Uzodinma for ensuring Imo’s inclusion in the programme, which had been active in other oil-producing states.
Participants lauded the collaboration and pledged their commitment to making the initiative a success, recognising its potential to reshape the agricultural landscape of Imo State.
