The Resident Representative of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, in Ghana, Ambassador Mohammed Lawan Gana, on February 3, 2025, hosted a high-level delegation from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and Ghana’s Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
The meeting reaffirmed ECOWAS and IOM’s commitment to supporting West African nations in tackling human trafficking.
The initiative aims to enhance the capacity of national institutions to provide better reception, care, and reintegration services for victims.
As part of the visit, Ambassador Gana assessed reception facilities for trafficking victims, identifying key challenges and priority areas for intervention before the official rollout of project activities.
The programme, spanning 12 ECOWAS countries, is set to fortify Ghana’s national systems in ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of trafficking survivors.
