The Nigerian Armed Forces intensified their offensive against terrorists and criminals in January 2025, achieving significant victories across the country.

According to a report from Defence Headquarters, troops neutralised 358 terrorists and arrested 431 suspected insurgents, while 59 oil thieves were also apprehended.

In a major boost to security efforts, 249 kidnapped hostages were rescued.

In the South-South region, the military prevented oil theft worth over ₦2.6 billion, recovering 2.7 million litres of stolen crude oil and large quantities of illegally refined diesel, kerosene, and petrol.

Troops also seized 370 weapons, including 105 AK-47 rifles, 25 locally made guns, and thousands of rounds of ammunition, further weakening criminal networks.

The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring national security, with troops maintaining relentless pressure on terrorists and criminal elements.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, assured Nigerians that the military remains focused on securing the nation.
