The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has refuted claims that it issues third-party insurance, stating that its role is strictly enforcement, not issuance.
This comes amid accusations circulating on social media that the police are profiting from the insurance policy.
In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police emphasised that vehicle owners must obtain third-party insurance through registered insurance companies.
The NPF has now commenced strict enforcement of the policy, effective February 1, 2025, to enhance road safety and protect accident victims.
The Force also cautioned social media influencers and activists against spreading misinformation that could mislead the public and encourage non-compliance, warning of potential legal consequences for motorists who fail to adhere to the policy.
The police urged Nigerians to seek accurate information and comply with insurance regulations to avoid unnecessary sanctions.
