In a surprising court ruling, a Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has ordered Rhoda Adu to pay ₦150,000 to her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, after she failed to visit him despite collecting ₦3,000 as transport fare.
According to court documents, Rhoda received the money from Sola but switched off her phone and did not show up as promised.
Feeling duped and emotionally hurt, Sola reported the incident to the Ayeso Police Station, leading to Rhoda’s arrest and subsequent trial.
During the proceedings, Sola presented evidence, including proof of the money transfer and WhatsApp messages exchanged with Rhoda.
Magistrate Akogun Oludare, in his judgment, ruled that Rhoda must refund the ₦3,000, pay ₦100,000 for breach of agreement, and an additional ₦50,000 as damages for emotional distress.
The court described the ruling as a warning against exploiting others under false pretenses.
