Power Grid Boost: NISO Begins Construction Of New National Control Room In Osogbo
As Nigeria continues to battle power instability and grid disruptions, strengthening the nation’s electricity control infrastructure has become more urgent than ever.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has taken a major step in that direction with the commencement of a new National Control Room at the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo, Osun State.
The project officially kicked off following the handover of the construction site to Messrs FBS Construction Engineering Services Limited during a ceremony held on Monday, April 21, 2026.
Speaking at the event, NISO’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, stressed the importance of maintaining high standards throughout the project.
He charged the contractors to uphold professionalism, ensure strict compliance with safety measures, and deliver quality work within the schedule.
Mohammed also tasked the NCC management with providing effective supervision and coordination, expressing confidence that the project would be completed successfully and on time.
The Executive Director of System Operations, Engr. Nafisatu Asabe Ali, described the National Control Centre as a critical national asset essential to both national security and economic growth.
She said the new control room would strengthen grid stability and improve electricity reliability across the country.
According to her, the site handover goes beyond a routine process, representing a renewed commitment to delivering strategic infrastructure with purpose and efficiency.
Also speaking, Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Mr Babajide Ibironke, urged the contractor to handle the project with a strong sense of national duty, noting that the initiative is key to improving electricity supply nationwide.
The new National Control Room is expected to play a significant role in enhancing Nigeria’s power management system and supporting efforts to build a more stable national grid.
