Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces successfully repelled an attack by ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists in Sabon Gari village, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The terrorists, riding motorcycles and gun trucks, launched the assault in retaliation for the recent killing of their commander and fighters by Nigerian forces.
The troops, supported by Civilian Joint Taskforce, vigilantes, and hybrid forces, swiftly countered the ambush, overpowering the insurgents.
Despite encountering an improvised explosive device that injured the vigilante commander, the reinforcement team arrived in time to decimate the fleeing terrorists.
The air component of Operation HADIN KAI also conducted airstrikes on the retreating insurgents, with battle assessments confirming the death of 34 terrorists.
Troops recovered 23 AK-47 rifles, over 200 rounds of ammunition, and other weapons.
Unfortunately, six personnel paid the ultimate sacrifice during the operation.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorism in Nigeria, urging the media to respect the process of notifying the families of the fallen heroes.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, who made this known through a press statement, commended the troops for their bravery and assured Nigerians of continued efforts to secure the nation.
