Anambra To Benefit From EU’s €1 Million For Tackling Floods, Cholera In Nigeria

The European Union has announced one million Euros in emergency humanitarian funding to support Nigeria’s ongoing battle against devastating floods and severe cholera outbreak.
Half of the funding (€500,000) will address the impacts of flooding in Kogi, Delta, and Anambra States, which have displaced over 78,000 people, destroyed homes, and ruined crops.
The aid will provide shelter, food, clean water, and sanitation while replenishing emergency supplies to prepare for potential future floods.
The other €500,000 will combat a worsening cholera epidemic, particularly in Borno and Yobe States, where overcrowded camps and poor sanitation have fueled the spread of the disease.
The funds will be used to strengthen healthcare systems, establish cholera treatment centers, and launch vaccination campaigns.
This funding forms part of the EU’s broader humanitarian efforts in Nigeria, bringing its total humanitarian support for 2024 to €48.7 million.
The EU remains committed to partnering with Nigerian authorities and humanitarian organizations to save lives and restore hope in affected communities.
