The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo State has dismissed allegations made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the alleged smuggling of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines and voters’ registers into its office.
The APC had accused members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of illegally accessing these crucial electoral materials.
Following an exhaustive investigation, INEC has declared that the accusations are baseless and entirely unsubstantiated.
According to the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, the investigation was conducted with full impartiality, affirming that at no time were the BVAS machines or voters’ registers compromised or tampered with by any political entity.
Dr. Onuoha stated, that INEC remains committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and that the commission has zero tolerance for any form of malpractice.
He reassured the public that all electoral materials are intact, further reinforcing INEC’s dedication to free, fair, and credible elections.
Dr. Onuoha called on all political stakeholders to cooperate during the inspection process and refrain from actions that could undermine public confidence in the electoral system, adding that in adherence to a court order, INEC is fully prepared to allow the inspection of BVAS machines and voter register ensuring transparency and compliance with the rule of law.
