Federal Housing Authority FHA Begins Verification Exercise in Imo Warns Against Illegal Developers

In an attempt to revamp and restructure the Federal Housing Estates the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has embarked on verification exercise to reclaim its original master plan, throughout its establishment across the Federation.

In achieving this, the management team of establishment is carrying out both house and land verification exercise to find out state of structural positions within the estates if it complied with the original master plan.

Leading the management team to the State, the Executive Director Estate Services federal housing, Nya-Etok Ezekiel during a media chat with Journalists in Owerri informed that Imo is among the 26 States the team has visited since their appointment in February this year with the mandate of repositioning the FHA back to what he termed as prime housing delivering organ of the federal government.

He said that on visiting the State, that the team has engaged with residents in a robust discussion educating and informing them on the danger of acquiring Land within FHA establishments without proper documentation and knowing the law guiding estate establishment.

The Executive Director further informed that while carrying out the verification exercise the team discovered that developers have flaunted FHA original master plan as many structures were erected directly at the middle of the road owning to the fact that they failed to consult properly before building as he enjoined residents to comply with the management team to actualize transparent and harmonized house delivering scheme.

He also said that it was further discovered that people engaged in multiple allocation of a particular land to different individuals leading to problem of unending litigations.

Ezekiel hinted that in order to avoid problems that may arise especially during allocation of lands that the establishment by the direction of its Managing Director,Oyetunde Ojo has commence digitalization process to ensure that house and land owners have digital imprints that will enable them have peace of mind and security over their properties.

On the issue of illegal structures the Executive Director pointed out that there are many illegal structures but maintained that the establishment will not use immediate action for demolition rather it will engage with the owners to find a way to work it out because of the present economic situation.

He revealed that FHA has over 50 estates across the Federation noting that in Owerri alone, it has 5 estates including Egbeada, Graceland, Arugwo, Lower Irete and Aladima Estates and that his team met with the representatives of the five residents association of the estates with the hope of partnering with them to restore the pride and security of the estates.

The executive director further said that as part of its programmes that the team met with the State governor Hope Uzodinma discussing means of actualizing affordable houses for both middle and low income earners a meeting he said was fruitful.
