The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced nomination interview for the 2024/2025 Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) to enable qualified Nigerians to compete globally with candidates from other Commonwealth Countries.
More than 30,000 Individuals have benefited from the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) Awards, since its inception in 1959, and majority of the awardees from Nigeria have returned to make significant contributions to the development of the nation, particularly in tertiary institutions.
Declaring the nomination interview open on behalf of the Ministry of Education, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. David Adejo, said Commonwealth Alumni in Nigeria have been instrumental in making laudable contributions to governance over time which is in line with one of the key objectives of the scheme to ensure that the returnee scholars make impact in their various disciplines for the betterment of the country.
He charged the panelists to use their clear understanding of the importance of improving access to quality education, and not lose sight of the enormous developmental challenges facing Nigeria in rating the candidates.
Mr. Adejo, remarked that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, relies heavily on education that is meaningful to the current development needs of the country and as such, would want to see scholars whose training programme would help in creating a globally competitive Nigeria.
Eairlier, the Director, Federal Scholarship Board, Asta Ndajunwo, stressed that the award is highly competitive especially with the limited number of spaces compared to the large number of applications received yearly.
According to her, this year, about two thousand (2000) scholars applied through the Electronic Application System (EAS) saying that the CSFP is highly prestigious as the award covers the Awardees and their Spouses but warned the scholars to be focused during the course.
She urged the panelists to continue to adhere to the set criteria of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) with a view to presenting the usual high quality candidates for the Minister’s endorsement.
