Military Explains Attack On Yobe Governor’s Convoy

The Nigeria military has thrown more lights on incidents surrounding the attack on the Yobe State Governor’s convoy and escorts by terrorists while returning from Maiduguri to Damaturu, at a place about 6 kilometers from Benisheikh town on the Maiduguri-Damaturu road.
Though the governor wass not in the convoy some government officials who were on the bus at the time of the incident include: Secretary to Yobe State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (retired), Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, military escorts with 2 mine resistant ambush protected vehicles and 3 Toyota gun trucks, police escorts, officers, Department of State Services personnel and members of the Hunter Group in Yobe State.
Troops of 29 Task Force Brigade, patrolling the Maiduguri-Damaturu road, immediately rushed to the scene to rescue the victims and recovered the two vehicles involved.
Security personnel involved in the incident include a military driver, four patrol officers and a personnel of the Department of State Services who all sustained gun shot wounds but were in stable condition unfortunately, a police escort died shortly after arriving at Damaturu Specialist Hospital.
A statement signed by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba said reinforcements from the 29th Task Force Brigade under the command of the Brigade commander are conducting an operation in the region to find the terrorists who committed the crime.
The two vehicles involved included a military vehicle and a civilian escort vehicle whose tires were hit during the incident, but both vehicles have been safely returned to the military camp at Benisheikh.
The injured have been taken to Damaturu Specialized Hospital, where they are being treated, while the bodies of the deceased police personnel has also been deposited at the mortuary of the same hospital.
Operations aimed at capturing and neutralizing the terrorists who carried out the dastardly attack are ongoing.
