FG inaugurates Eight-Man Committee to develop Roadmap for education sector

The Federal government of Nigeria has inaugurated an eight-man committee to develop a roadmap for the education sector in the country in line with the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.


The committee which has Dr. Nuru Yabuku as its Chairman, is a compilation of experts in the education sector and is tasked with addressing critical issues hindering progress, including the alignment of curriculum with contemporary global educational standards, addressing infrastructural deficits, ensuring financial autonomy in tertiary institutions, promoting access and equity, fostering research and innovation, and strengthening the government-industry-academic nexus, as well as ensuring the global competitiveness of the Nigerian educational system.
In his speech while inaugurating the committee at the Conference Room of the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, said his vision for the ministry is anchored on improving the lives of Nigerians in a manner that not just reflects humanity but encourages compassion towards one another, and duly rewards collective efforts to resolve the social ills that seek to divide Nigeria as a nation.
According to him, President Tinubu, has declared his commitment to education and as a priority, among other missions, to see that about 10.5 million out-of-school children in Nigeria are retrained with skills that will make them stand on their own.
Professor Mamman, acknowledged the challenges ahead, saying that Nigerians are eagerly waiting for a quick turnaround in all sectors under present administration, with education as a cornerstone for positive change.
He highlighted the urgency of the mission of the committee, emphasizing the need for clear direction so as to transform Nigeria’s fortunes.
Other members of committee are: Profs Ernest Ojukwu, Sa’ad Umar, and Ismail Junaid, Shulamite Paul, Dr. Garba Ibrahim and Hajia Hindatu Abdullahi.
Mr. Joseph Achede will serve as the secretary of committee.
