The Minister of Defence Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi ((rtd), has assured that the welfare and training of soldiers remain top priorities of the Federal Government

The Minister was speaking, when he commissioned the newly completed NDA-NAF link road, and an edifice ” MAJ GEN BASHIR MAGASHI GATE” named after him at the Nigerian Defence Academy, to enhance the security architecture of the Academy.

 

The Defence Minister, commended the NDA Commandant Maj General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf, for transforming the institution with quality infrastructures dotting its landscape adding that the Ministry of Defence will continue to improve on the welfare and training of soldiers.

 

The NDA Commandant Maj General Yusuf, while appreciating the Minister of Defence for commissioning the projects which according to him, will enhance the security architecture of the Academy thanked the Chief of Defence Staff General Leo Irabor and the Service Chiefs for their immense support to the institution.

According to a statement by the Special Assistant to the Minister of Defence on Media and Publicity, Mohammad Abdulkadri, the Minister who had a closed-door meeting with the management of the Academy, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Farouk Yahaya, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral AZ Gambo, and a representative of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao, was led by the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, (NDA), Maj General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf, inspected the newly completed concrete perimeter fence project around the academy.

He said at the Camp Deep Punch, there was a beehive of demonstrations by the Cadets who displayed combat skills in manoeuvrability after the Defence Minister cut the tape in honour of twenty-four fallen heroes with rare display of valour, loyalty, resilience and integrity in line of training.

The Special Guest, General Magashi, who had served as Commandant of the NDA from July 1998 to January 1999, described the edifice named after him as a great honour.

The Minister was also at the Ammunition Production Line “B” of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) which was razed down by fire last week where the Director General of DICON, Major General Hassan Tafida, was on hand to conduct the Minister and the Service Chiefs round the ORDFAC “E” 7.62 X39 Special Production line.
