Women groups have been advised to begin aggressive campaign that would target young girls to aspire to go into Innovation and Technology
A Director at the Federal Radio Coroporation of Nigeria, Husseina Akila, made the call at a programme organised by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Abuja chapter in commemoration of the International Women’s Day tagged Digital Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.
She said, even though women seems to be everywhere, there are very few of them at the decision making arena and advocated that women should endeavour to match the men one on one in the digital sector.
According to her, there have been decline of women in the political arena in recent time hence more should be done to improve women placement in leadership positions.
Earlier, the chairperson of NAWOJ Abuja, Annah Daniel, said women journalists will achieve more if they become digitally enabled and their voices amplified.
She said discrimination and unequal treatment in the newsroom have continued to limit women journalists who have to go through a lot to be at par with their male counterparts.
For a guest lecturer, a cyber expert, Mr. Emmanuel Okoi, when women lead, there’s transformation as internet savvy women fare much better than their male counterparts.
Other speakers at the event, including the chairman NUJ, FCT Council, Emmanuel Ogbeche, Lemmy Ughegbe, Ronke Bello, among others called for equity in all relations to women.
