European Union, EU, in Nigeria has promised to continue to work with the Federal Government to support its vision for the future.
The EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi, who disclosed this at Europe Day Celebration 2022 in Abuja said the which began 72 years ago is in commemoration of the founding fathers to recall shared values and relive their motto “unity in diversity” promote peace instead of war after a thousand years of conflicts among European nations.
According to her, through the Multinational Joint Task Force, EU is assisting Nigeria in bringing back peace in the North East by supporting recovery, peace-building and the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
She said so far, the EU bloc has expended about 400 million euros in support to vulnerable communities that are suffering the impact of violence through the provision of humanitarian and development aid to save lives and ensure dignity.
The EU Ambassador, further promised that they will support Nigeria in various areas including strengthening maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, responding to security and development challenges, working together to further consolidate Nigeria’s democracy and the rule of law, supporting human rights and advancing inclusion and gender equality, by standing side by side with survivors of sexual and gender based violence among others.
Nigeria’s Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare, on behalf of the ministry and Federal Government, promised they will stand together to make the partnership stronger especially as the European Union is celebrating the year of the youth this year to create enabling environment for youths in the country.
According to the Minister, there are several EU -Nigeria alliances that are assisting Nigeria youths in education and providing them with opportunities through innovative initiatives thereby, making them better citizens.
