Kaura Clinches APC Ticket In Dramatic Zamfara Re-run
By Prosper Okoye
For Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, the battle to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Zamfara North has ended in a decisive victory, following a court-ordered re-run of the party’s senatorial primary.
Kaura polled 16,758 votes to defeat his closest challengers, Sahabi Alhaji Yau, who scored 1,465 votes, and Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, who secured 1,447 votes.
The result, announced on Monday by the APC Senatorial Primary Election Committee, gives Kaura the party’s ticket for the 2027 general election after the courts nullified the earlier nomination process over reported irregularities.
The re-run followed a Court of Appeal decision in Sokoto, which upheld an earlier ruling by the Federal High Court in Gusau invalidating the previous primary and directing the APC to conduct a fresh exercise.
Announcing the outcome, a member of the election committee, Sani Abdullahi, said Kaura emerged with the highest number of valid votes and satisfied the requirements for nomination under the APC constitution and electoral guidelines.
According to the committee, 19,608 delegates were accredited from a total of 23,257 registered delegates, while 19,292 valid votes were recorded.
The committee’s result sheet, signed by its chairman and secretary on November 2, formally declared Kaura the winner of the re-run.
His victory brings an end to the court-ordered contest over the APC senatorial nomination in Zamfara North, although the broader political battle for the seat will now shift towards the 2027 general election.
