Nigerian Military Rescues 36 Abducted Victims, Disrupts Terrorist Networks Nationwide
The Nigerian military says its sustained operations across the country have resulted in the rescue of at least 36 abducted civilians, neutralisation of terrorists and the disruption of criminal and secessionist networks between 31 August and 3 September 2026.
A statement signed by the Director Defense Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said troops in the North-West, rescued 23 abducted civilians, three men and 20 women, near Wuya Town in Zamfara State after they had reportedly spent about three weeks in captivity while six other victims were rescued in Kebbi, and two were freed in Katsina.
Troops also rescued five male kidnap victims from farms in Niger State, while in Kogi State, kidnappers abandoned two unharmed women following a military response.
The operations also targeted terrorist logistics.
In Kaduna, troops intercepted 793 rounds of ammunition concealed in a sack of grain, while operations in Katsina and Zamfara led to the deaths of suspected terrorist kingpins and the recovery of weapons, ammunition and other military equipment.
In the North-East, troops neutralised terrorists in Borno and Yobe, arrested suspected informants and logistics suppliers, and received the surrender of several terrorist fighters.
Twenty-one women and children also surrendered to troops in Borno amid reported clashes between rival terrorist factions.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, commended the troops and called for continued public cooperation, particularly the sharing of useful intelligence with security agencies.
